Language Tutoring
The Excel Languages Center (LC) offers language tutoring for most of the languages taught by the UCCS Languages and Cultures Department. The LC currently provides support in the following languages: ASL, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. The LC uses a collaborative approach to tutoring. We provide drop-in times for students to work with a tutor. There may be students from different levels/courses in the center at any time. Our center is physically structured in a way that students can choose to work collaboratively at tables or individually at a private workstation.
Regularly accessing academic support and studying in dedicated learning spaces results in an increase of up to two full letter grades in one or more courses. Students who participate in tutoring and collaborative learning environments persist and graduate at higher rates compared to their peers who do not participate in academic support activities.
Conversation Tables
Would you like to improve your conversation skills in your target language? Would you like to help others improve their speaking abilities in your native language? Our goal is to help you practice your conversational skills while making new friends!
Tutoring begins the first week of classes each semester and ends the last week of classes. (There is limited tutoring during finals week.)
If your personal schedule prevents you from attending one of our open sessions, you may contact us to inquire about setting up a one-on-one tutoring session. This is addressed on a case-by-case basis due to Tutor and administrative availability. Whenever possible, these sessions will also take place in the LC but we will continue to utilize Microsoft Teams in certain circumstances.
Please never hesitate to communicate your individual Excel Languages Center needs to us. If you need support outside of the posted days/hours, please email LANGSCTR@uccs.edu with a detailed request with your availability and the Excel Languages Center Director—Dr. Jesse Perez --will work with you to support your needs to the best of our ability.
