The Excel Languages Center (LC) is one of four Excel Centers at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) and is part of the Academic Affairs Division. Located in Dwire Hall 270, we provide a welcoming and dynamic space for all UCCS students, faculty, staff, and community members who are passionate about language learning and cultural exchange.
You do not need to be enrolled in a language course to participate. While we support students in UCCS language courses, we also welcome independent learners and community members. Whether you're looking for tutoring, conversation practice, or a place to study and connect, you’re encouraged to drop in.
As a hub for UCCS’s language learning community, the LC is a space where languages come to life. On any given day, you might find a Japanese conversation table discussing favorite foods, students practicing Spanish together, a lively game of mahjong, or foreign films playing in the background. You may also hear students sharing stories from their time abroad or exploring cultural aspects of their target language.
Why visit the Excel Languages Center?
• Tutoring and language support in ASL, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish
• Conversation Tables for relaxed, real-time speaking practice
• Study and collaboration space for individuals and groups
• Games and cultural activities that support language learning
• Free coffee and snacks to support student wellness
• Cultural events and programming through our Languages for Life series
The Excel Languages Center is more than a tutoring space. It is a place to connect, build skills, and engage with language and culture in a supportive, multilingual community.
The mission of the Excel Languages Center (LC) is to empower student success through collaborative learning, individualized tutoring, leadership development, and meaningful dialogues.
The Excel Languages Center supports students through free tutoring, conversation practice, and a collaborative learning environment designed to build confidence and language proficiency.
Whether you are enrolled in a UCCS language course or learning independently, our peer tutors support the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, along with effective language learning strategies.
Support is primarily offered in person through drop-in tutoring and Conversation Tables, with limited online options available. Our approach emphasizes interaction, cultural connection, and real-world language use.
At the Excel Languages Center, students can:
• Get help with grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening, writing, and study strategies
• Practice speaking through Conversation Tables in a relaxed, group setting
• Study independently or collaborate with classmates and peers
• Engage with language through games, media, and cultural activities
• Attend events and workshops through our Languages for Life series
• Connect with other language learners and build confidence in a supportive environment

Tutoring is available on a drop-in basis during posted hours. No appointment is needed. For language-specific tutoring schedules, please see the Tutoring tab.
Limited appointments outside of posted hours and online support may be available depending on tutor and center availability.
If you have questions or specific scheduling needs, please contact langsctr@uccs.edu.
The Excel Languages Center (LC) partners with faculty and staff to support student learning by providing opportunities for students to apply course content, strengthen language skills, and engage in meaningful practice with trained peer tutors.
We encourage faculty to refer students to tutoring, Conversation Tables, and other LC resources to support their progress.
We also welcome collaboration on:
• Hosting review sessions or study groups aligned with course content
• Organizing language and culture focused events, workshops, or guest speakers
• Sharing resources for student use in the LC, including textbooks, digital tools, and learning activities
• Integrating LC services into course syllabi to encourage student engagement
• Developing specialized support to meet the needs of students at different proficiency levels
We are happy to work with you to design support that best serves your students. For collaboration inquiries, please contact langsctr@uccs.edu.
The Excel Languages Center is a space for language learning, support, and growth. We serve students at all stages of language acquisition, whether just beginning or refining existing skills.
Tutoring and Conversation Tables are currently available in American Sign Language (ASL), French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. However, language learning extends beyond these offerings, and students with an interest in other languages are always welcome.
The center supports exploration through resources such as films, books, and cultural materials for independent study. Student interest plays an important role in shaping future offerings.
If you are looking for support in a language not currently offered, we encourage you to reach out and share your interest. Your input helps us identify demand and expand programming over time.
If you have questions or would like to explore how the Excel Languages Center can support you, please contact us.
