Language Proficiency Assessments

Language Proficiency Assessments

The Excel Languages Center (LC) no longer provides assessments and placement exams that may be taken by UCCS students seeking to demonstrate language proficiency. Those seeking placement or aiming to demonstrate proficiency to fulfill a requirement should contact the Department of Languages and Cultures at langcult@uccs.edu.

Students may need to satisfy a world language requirement as part of their degree program, a criterion often specified in their degree audit. Should students have any inquiries regarding this requirement, they are encouraged to reach out to their academic advisor for assistance. Those seeking placement or aiming to demonstrate proficiency to fulfill this requirement should contact the Department of Languages and Cultures at langcult@uccs.edu.

The Department of Languages and Cultures now manages the language placement process, previously overseen by the Excel Languages Center. To schedule your assessment, please contact the Languages and Cultures Department at langcult@uccs.edu. Please note that students taking the assessment will not receive academic credit; instead, they will receive a language proficiency document indicating their level based on their score. Upon completing the placement exam, the Languages and Cultures Department will notify both you and your Academic Advisor of the recommended course for your proficiency level. While the Excel Languages Center no longer administers placement and proficiency testing, our tutors are available to help you prepare for these assessments and provide support once you are enrolled in courses.

If a faculty member assigned a language proficiency assessment or WebCAPE test for a class requirement, contact the Languages and Cultures Department at langcult@uccs.edu.

The Languages Center no longer administers English proficiency assessments for international student admissions. Those that have questions about English proficiency assessments are encouraged to contact their admissions counselor. Please contact us at LangsCtr@uccs.edu if you need support finding campus resources.
